Getting Started with Wax Play

Wax play is a form of sensory play where warm, melted wax is poured onto the skin to create controlled sensations of heat, anticipation, and release. You need a body-safe candle formulated for skin contact — never a household candle. Start with a low temperature like our 50°C Violet, read our beginner’s guide, and have a conversation with your partner about boundaries before you begin.
Yes — when you use a body-safe wax play candle with a controlled melting point. Our candles range from 50°C to 75°C, all made from a natural soy-paraffin blend tested for skin contact. Start at 50°C where the sensation feels like warm bathwater. Read our safety and aftercare guide for body area maps, distance charts, and the full safety protocol written by our sexologist.
Start at 50°C if you have never tried wax play before. It feels like warm water on the skin — noticeable but gentle, with no sting. If you and your partner already enjoy light sensation play, 55°C or 60°C will feel more distinct. Our temperature guide explains each level in detail. The Duo Holy Intimacy set (50°C + 55°C) is our most popular starter option.
You can absolutely practice wax play solo. Many people enjoy the ritual of self-pouring on arms, legs, or chest as a meditative, sensory experience. Start with easily reachable areas and keep the candle at a low temperature. Our 50°C Violet and 55°C Ocean Green are both well suited for solo sessions.
A body-safe candle, a dark towel or sheet to protect your surface, a cool damp cloth for contrast and comfort, a lighter, and a soothing moisturiser for aftercare. Most importantly, have a conversation about consent and boundaries first. Our beginner’s guide has a complete first-session checklist with step-by-step instructions.

Safety & Body Areas

Body-safe wax play candles are formulated to melt at temperatures well below the skin’s burn threshold. Our range spans 50–75°C. Because wax cools rapidly once poured, exposure is brief and controlled. At 50°C you will feel warmth with no sting; even at 75°C, the brief contact does not cause tissue damage on recommended body areas. See our safety guide for body area maps and safe pouring distances.
The safest areas are the upper back, chest, stomach, thighs, and forearms — places with more tissue between skin and bone. Avoid the face, genitals, joints, and any areas with broken skin, sunburn, or recent tattoos. Our safety guide includes a detailed body area map showing green, amber, and red zones with recommended temperatures for each.
No. Household candles burn at 80–90°C with paraffin additives, synthetic fragrances, and sometimes metal-core wicks — none of which are tested for skin contact. Body-safe wax play candles like ours use a natural soy-paraffin blend, cosmetic-grade dyes, skin-safe fragrance oils, and cotton wicks, all engineered to melt at controlled temperatures between 50–75°C.
Mild redness lasting 15–60 minutes is normal and expected — it is a heat response, not a burn. If redness persists beyond two hours, apply aloe vera gel and a cool compress. For any blistering, apply burn cream and seek medical advice. Always do a small test pour on the inner forearm before a full session. Full aftercare protocol in our safety and aftercare guide.
Our candles are made from a natural soy-paraffin blend with cosmetic-grade dyes and skin-safe, phthalate-free fragrance oils. Every batch is hand-tested on skin before release. If you have known skin allergies or very reactive skin, we recommend starting with a small test pour on the inner forearm and waiting 15 minutes before proceeding. Our Candles & Ingredients

Each candle is available in four sizes: S (120 g, approximately 3–5 sessions), M (160 g, 5–8 sessions), L (250 g, 8–12 sessions), and XL (350 g, 12–18 sessions). Prices range from €20 to €50. If you are buying your first candle, the M size offers a good balance between exploration and value.
Our range spans 50°C (gentle warmth) to 75°C (intense heat). 50°C feels like warm bathwater. 55°C adds a mild tingle. 60°C gives a clear, satisfying heat. 65°C introduces a brief sting. 70°C is sharp and immediate. 75°C is for experienced players who want full intensity. Our temperature guide explains the sensation of each level with recommended body areas and distances.
For someone who has never tried wax play, the Random Beginner Set is the easiest choice — we curate it specifically for first-timers. For couples who enjoy the ritual, the Duo Holy Intimacy (50°C + 55°C) makes a thoughtful gift. For someone more experienced, the Trio Inferno covers the warmer end of our range.
Every SenseMe candle is handmade in Lisbon from a natural soy-paraffin wax blend, cosmetic-grade dyes, skin-safe fragrance oils, and cotton wicks. The formula is designed by Olga Bevz — sexologist and candlemaker — to deliver a controlled melting temperature, clean burn, and pleasant peel-off. We do not use mineral oil, synthetic paraffin additives, or metal-core wicks.
Wax peels off skin easily once cooled — simply lift an edge and pull. Any residue washes away with warm water and soap. For fabric, let the wax harden completely, then flex the fabric to crack and lift it off. A warm iron over a paper towel can remove final traces. Using a dark towel or dedicated sheet during play prevents staining on light fabrics.
Yes. Our candles are designed for multiple sessions. Simply relight, let the melt pool form (5–10 minutes), and pour. Each relighting is a fresh session. Between uses, store the candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Trim the wick to 5 mm before each use for a clean, even burn.
Each candle has a distinctive but moderate fragrance that adds to the sensory experience without overpowering. The scent is most noticeable when the candle is burning and during the pour. Once the wax cools on skin, the fragrance fades gently. If you are scent-sensitive, the 75°C Nude Musco Blanco has the subtlest, most neutral profile in our range.

Aftercare & Skin

Aftercare has two parts: physical and emotional. Physically, peel off the cooled wax, wipe the skin with a warm damp cloth, and apply a soothing moisturiser or aloe vera. Emotionally, take time to decompress together — talk about what felt good, what you would change, and check in on each other. Our safety and aftercare guide has a complete aftercare protocol.
At lower temperatures (50–60°C), redness typically fades within 15–30 minutes. At higher temperatures (65–75°C), mild redness can last up to 60 minutes. This is a normal heat response, not a burn. If redness is accompanied by raised welts or persists beyond two hours, apply aloe vera and a cool compress. See our safety guide for the full redness timeline.
It is better to moisturise after, not before. Oil-based products on skin before wax play can trap heat and change how the wax adheres, potentially causing uneven cooling. Start with clean, dry skin. After the session, apply a gentle moisturiser or aloe vera as part of your aftercare routine. Our beginner’s guide covers full preparation and aftercare steps.
